Final Exam and Semester Grades

Students must attend the final exam period that will take place according to the final exam schedule issued by Racine Unified School District. The final exam may be a cumulative exam (for that semester only) with questions drawn from the quizzes given throughout the semester. The final exam period may also be used as conference time for students and I to discuss their final portfolios as described in the grading policies.

The final exam may affect only the semester grade and/or only the quarter grade depending on the flow of the course material. Students will be informed two weeks before the end of the semester which one will apply.

Semester grades are primarily determined by me based on the two quarters of the semester. If a student has earned a "B" for the first quarter and a "B" for the second quarter, I find it difficult to alter the semester grade based off of one exam (especially after informing parents of students' standings via home reports and quarter report cards). The final exam period will aid me in determining a semester grade for students that have earned two differing quarter grades, or are hovering at the borderline of a grade.

All students are required to take the final exam. Failure to do so will result in a drastically reduced semester grade.
